Being a little hesitant initially (as though I loved playing and performing, I wasn't sure how I would go teaching) I eventually decided to give it a go and take on a few lessons and discovered I really loved it.

Our Story

We met by chance almost 20 years ago in a little coffee shop in Sydney, Australia and bonded over a love of similar music and performing. For us, making music has been a way to heal from heartbreak and grief and to find a sense of peace, comfort and connection while going through the ups and downs in life.We have both suffered grief through great loss. Ryan lost his brother in a tragic climbing accident in 2012 and Fi lost both her parents
and 2 best friends within the last few years. These experiences
have changed our musical direction and led us on a far
more heartfelt and creative path.Delving deep into the most painful parts of ourselves, we began writing songs about love, loss and the letting go of the pain that grief can cause. Our hope is that they will help bring a sense of comfort to you, as much as the process of writing them has done for us.We are currently recording 14 of these new songs and will be releasing them all by the end of 2024. Piano Lessons
with Ryan

While performing around Sydney as part of Ryan & Fi, I often had people ask if I taught piano lessons. Being a little hesitant initially (as although I loved playing and performing, I wasn't sure how I would do teaching) I eventually decided to give it a go and take on a few lessons and discovered I really loved it.Specialising in beginner to intermediate players, my teaching style
is all about instilling the love and passion I have for piano, music, performing and composing in my students. I like to make the lessons fun and engaging with music related games (especially for my younger students), teaching simple and enjoyable songs as well
as songs that students have a particular personal interest in
and a desire to learn.I have also taken many of my students through their early AMEB Grades with students passing their Preliminary, Grade 1, 2 and 3 exams with High Distinction and Honours. For students that are interested in achieving their Grades, I teach from
Preliminary to Grade 6 exams.However, achieving Grades is not something I'm insistent on. I'm
very happy to teach the songs a student enjoys playing. For me, enjoyment and passion for the songs you are playing should come first before doing your Grades. John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't do their grades and they still became pretty good musicians!Having recently moved to the Blue Mountains, I have now begun teaching at my home in Leura or in my students' homes close by. Please note my stated prices are $5 cheaper if you attend lessons at my home or you live nearby. I'm also available to teach over Zoom.For lessons, all you need is a piano or keyboard and a love for music. A 66-88 note keyboard is recommended, although for beginners
you can use something smaller.I have an ABN number, I'm registered to accept Creative Kids Vouchers, I have Public Liability Insurance as well as a

Piano Instrumental Bookings

As well as playing as part of the duo Ryan & Fi, Ryan also plays peaceful original piano instrumentals in the style of Richard Clayderman and Yann Tiersen. He takes well known songs from a variety of genres and turns them into beautiful piano ballads. Ryan brings a calming ambience to wherever he plays. Whether performing his own compositions or instrumental versions of popular covers, his music provides a comforting blanket of sound that
allows the listener to sit back and relax.
